Get ready for a blast from the past! At CAPCo Engineering, we’re gearing up to restore a vintage 1949 International Harvester Stakebed KB-2 truck. Our team of experts is excited to breathe new life into this classic vehicle, combining our love of history with our passion for mechanical engineering. This truck is more than just a mode of transportation – it’s a piece of American history that deserves to be preserved and enjoyed for years to come.

A Brief History of the International Harvester KB Series
The International Harvester (IH) KB series, including the KB-2 pickup, was introduced in 1947 as an update to the K series. This series was known for its durability and affordability, with over 122,000 KB-1 and KB-2 trucks sold between 1947 and 1949. The KB series featured a widened lower grill, giving it a distinctive “wings” appearance that set it apart from other trucks of its time.
The KB series was a testament to International Harvester’s commitment to quality and innovation. These trucks were built to last, with rugged designs and robust builds that could withstand the toughest conditions. Whether used for work or play, the KB series was a reliable and trustworthy companion that earned a loyal following among truck enthusiasts.
Performance Specs of the KB-2
The KB-2 truck is powered by a reliable engine, built to provide dependable performance and durability. While we don’t know the exact horsepower and torque specs of this particular truck, we can appreciate the engineering that went into designing an engine that could withstand the demands of heavy-duty use.

Our Restoration Journey
We’ve already made significant progress on the truck, including:
- Miscellaneous mechanical repairs to get the truck running smoothly. Diagnose and fix issues with the engine, transmission, and brakes, ensuring that the truck is safe and reliable.
- New windows and rubber to restore the truck’s original charm. We’ve replaced the old windows and seals with new ones, giving the truck a fresh look and feel that’s sure to impress.
Next up is repairing a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, which is currently causing the truck to run loud. This is a critical step in the restoration process, as a faulty exhaust system can lead to decreased performance and increased emissions. Our team is up to the task, and we’re confident that we’ll get the job done right.

Our upcoming projects include:
- Rebuilding the original seat and recovering it with new foam and cover. This will not only improve the truck’s comfort and functionality but also preserve its original character.
- Body work to repair flaws and prep the truck for painting. Our team will carefully sand and repair any dents or scratches, ensuring a smooth and flawless finish.
- Painting the CAPCo logo on the doors of the truck. This will be a proud moment for our team, as we’ll be showcasing our company’s logo on a piece of American history.
- Rebuilding the stake bed, including all new wood for the bed frame and side removable side boards. This will be a major undertaking, but we’re confident that our team has the skills and expertise to get the job done.
